KEXBI's meal generator does not invent food. It picks from a verified library of ingredients with known macros, known micronutrients, and a known glycemic response, plus any custom items you add yourself. That library lives inside the engine. Your pantry is your slice of it: the items you own, the items KEXBI prefers when it builds your week.
Accurate pantry input collapses meal-plan friction. Inaccurate pantry input produces meals you will not cook. Six shelves below, in the order they pull weight. Each has a small core and a small rotation. Stock the core; rotate when you feel like it.
KEXBI asks for one in onboarding. Your selection filters what the meal engine can pull and what the pantry quick-tap surfaces. The Proteins shelf below is split into four lanes; pick yours and skip the others. The other five shelves are shared across diets.
The Pantry lives in your profile under Nutrition. Open it and you see the verified KEXBI library grouped by category, with the items you already own marked. Four things to know before stocking the shelves.
Profile → Nutrition → Pantry. The screen lists every category with the items currently in your library. Your dietary lane filters the visible set: a vegan account does not see animal proteins, a pescatarian account drops poultry and red meat, and so on.
Two states. Staple means always on hand. Occasional means sometimes. The engine prefers staples first, falls back to occasional when variety is needed, and substitutes only when neither covers the macro slot. Tap once to mark Staple, again to mark Occasional, a third time to clear.
The verified library is large but it does not cover every regional ingredient, every brand, or every household preference. Three ways to add:
Meal generation prefers what you own. Branded items (your specific whey isolate, your specific gel, your favourite sauce) are honoured when entered as custom. Shopping list churn drops because the engine reaches for what is already in your kitchen. Update the pantry whenever you change brands or stock something new; the engine picks up the change on the next plan refresh.
Protein is the shelf that decides whether a plan preserves lean mass or quietly gives it away. Muscle protein synthesis saturates at roughly 0.3 to 0.4 g per kg of bodyweight per meal [1,2], which means the priority is distribution across three or four feedings, not a single hero serving at dinner. The pantry supports this by keeping at least two fast proteins on the shelf at all times.
Pick two or three core proteins from your dietary lane that you will actually cook mid-week, and two or three rotation proteins for variety. Lean mass does not care which lane your protein came from. It cares whether it arrived.
Carbs are the lever the engine moves most. On a hard training day, KEXBI shifts carbs toward the pre- and post-session windows. On a rest day, they compress and move earlier. The shelf has to support both patterns, which means fast carbs and slow carbs in equal measure.
The core is what cooks in under twenty minutes: rice, oats, sweet potato. The rotation is what sits in a jar or a tin: chickpeas, lentils, quinoa. If the shelf runs out of both, meals default to takeaway, and the week leaks.
The common mistake on this shelf is stocking only fast carbs (rice, pasta, bread) and no slow-GI options. The engine reaches for the slow ones on rest days and on evenings where the next session is not early. An over-indexed shelf pushes every meal into the same GI band.
Fats are the shelf most people under-stock because the public messaging around fat is still stuck somewhere in 1997. In the KEXBI engine, total daily fat sits at a floor of 0.66 g per kg bodyweight even in aggressive Fat Loss plans, because the evidence for hormonal disruption below that floor is solid [3].
The shelf covers three jobs: a fat base for cooking (olive oil, ghee, butter, or a dairy-free alternative for vegans), a dense cold fat for salads and finishing (extra virgin olive oil, avocado), and a small bag of seeds and nuts that pull double duty as snacks and as micronutrient carriers.
One note on the seeds. Ground flaxseed, chia, and hemp deliver most of the plant omega-3 (ALA) that a fish-light diet can offer. They oxidise fast once ground, so buy small bags and keep them in the fridge. A tablespoon folded into a bowl of oats is a cheap way to fund an entire day of ALA.
This shelf is where users overspend the fastest. The list of compounds with strong athletic evidence is short. Essentials are the shelf nobody brags about but everybody uses. Salt, pepper, vinegar, garlic, ginger, tomato paste, miso, fish sauce. These are the items that make the other five shelves productive. One functional note. Black pepper carries piperine, which raises the absorption of curcumin (the active compound in turmeric) by roughly two thousand percent [8]. Herbs and spices are the most concentrated source of bioactive compounds in the human diet. On a per-gram basis, dried herbs and spices carry roughly a hundred times the antioxidant compound density of fresh fruit. A teaspoon of turmeric delivers more curcumin than a bowl of most vegetables. A pinch of cinnamon is an insulin-sensitivity lever. Rosemary is a neuroprotective carnosic-acid carrier that also reduces the formation of heterocyclic amines when grilled with meat [9].
KEXBI does not ask users to pick individual spices. One concrete loadout, to make the framework above tangible. This is what the shelves look like for a single user: omnivore, hybrid trained (lifting plus conditioning), 50 years old, currently in a Fat Loss block. Your numbers will be different. The shape of the answer should look similar.
Most of these are UK supermarket basics. The branded items (Maurten, Naughty Boy, Kinetica, Huel, Steens, n!ck's, Transparent Labs, Optimum Nutrition, Puresport) are added as custom pantry entries; KEXBI's verified library covers the generic categories, and the user adds the specific brands they actually use. The engine honours them in meal generation.
Two notes on the picks. At 50, omega-3 and vitamin D3 priority is higher than at 25 (anabolic resistance, sleep quality, bone density). And the carb shelf carries both fast (oats, rice, sourdough) and slow (lentils, chickpeas) options because hybrid training means the engine is asked for both fuelling profiles in the same week.
A pantry is infrastructure. When the six shelves are stocked, the meal generator has material to work with and the week runs itself. When they are not, every meal is a negotiation, and the plan starts leaking by Wednesday.
